The Arts Fund responds to proposals that are based on a serious self-assessment, requests which recognize the importance of institutional planning and financial management for artistic and operational objectives, and proposals which illustrate a commitment to the long haul.

The Toolbox Application Process:
  1. Toolbox applications are accepted three times a year in December, May, and September.
  2. Applications are submitted via email by 5:00 PM on the day of the deadline. Incomplete, late or faxed submissions will not be accepted.
  3. Within six to eight weeks applicants will be informed if they have been awarded a Toolbox award.
The Toolbox provides awards of technical assistance to address a particular issue. The Toolbox does not award cash grants.

Toolbox Awards are designed to assist in management, governance, administration and stability issues, not artistic issues. The highest priority will be given to organizations whose applications reflect:
  • Organization-wide planning and decision-making in requesting support;
  • Clarity of mission and a philosophy of inclusiveness;
  • A readiness to embark on the solutions to issues and/or challenges; and
  • Requests for which Toolbox resources are available to meet the organization's specific needs.
Two or more organizations working together are encouraged to apply for an award as a team. Similarly, the awarding committee may observe that several organizations share a similar challenge that would most appropriately be met by receiving a shared or team award.

To be eligible for the Toolbox through the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, organizations must:
  • Demonstrate a base of support within their communities.
  • Actively embrace a philosophy of inclusiveness.
Toolbox awards are available to non-profit arts organizations located in one of the following 23 counties:

Barrow   DeKalb   Newton
Bartow   Douglas   Morgan
Butts   Fayette   Paulding
Carroll   Forsyth   Pickens
Cherokee   Fulton   Rockdale
Clayton   Gwinnett   Spalding
Cobb   Hall   Walton
Coweta   Henry

In addition, organizations must have annual operating budgets less than $1.5 million; organizations must pay their artists and performers associated with cultural programming; have a minimum operating history of two years after their 501(c)(3) designation; and have at least one full-time paid staff position.
